As engineers, we have to know who we will be writing too in order to be able to either know how we are going to convince someone or inform. For instance, we have to research the known audience and see if there is going to be multiple, or even unknown but still keep in mind that we still want to have a level of professionalism when writing to the audience. For instance, for our when my team and I were seeing who our audience could be, I pointed out a location that could be good to try out our product, which was a project housing in the Bronx. Which in order to use their buildings we needed to know convince and get permission to start our project in these buildings and which we knew that Vlada Kenniff is a government official (see figure 1), The Senior Vice President for Sustainability in NYCHA’s Asset and Capital Management. Making her a perfect audience to convince, since they are looking for ways to help make the buildings green and sustainable, which with our smart thermostat we knew we had a chance to be persuasive using the sustainability aspect of our product as the selling point for this government official.
